Well, Dancing Queens, alas, the time has come… the colossal Broadway hit, Mama Mia!, is saying goodbye with a farewell tour. I had the pleasure of attending opening night for the Atlanta leg of the tour and this cast is not leaving us unsatisfied!
This is my second time seeing Mama Mia! on stage at The Fabulous Fox Theatre and it was just as much fun as the first time. One, I am a Broadway fanatic. Two, I love ABBA. Three, I am a sucker for a good story. This show is a triple threat. It is also a testimony to the incredible songwriting of ABBA. I grew up with their music so I know every song by heart. But I never knew what powerful love stories they told… until they were used to tell a story.
Do you need to be a fan of ABBA to enjoy this show? Absolutely not! You will laugh and cry and laugh some more. Eventually, you will be dancing with the rest of us… especially at the end. The encore is everything. If you ARE a fan of ABBA, you will get all of your life!
Mama Mia! will be in Atlanta at The Fox Theatre THIS WEEK ONLY! (June 13-18) Click here for other cities on the farewell tour.
Last week, I had the pleasure of going behind the scenes of the new Georgia Public Broadcasting talk show “A Seat at the Table.” This is a phenomenal show! I may be slightly biased because my dear friend and sister of the pen Denene Millner is one of the hosts, but it truly is what we have been missing in the media. Strong black female voices telling our stories AND your stories from our perspective. This is not “The View” or “The Real” or anything close. This is DIFFERENT! This is BETTER! You can’t get this level of authenticity on any other show! These three BEAUTIFUL women break it down so it will forever be broke!! If anything, just tune in to see the legendary Ms. Monica Pearson in a way you have NEVER seen her before! She is Bae! I love her so much!
If you are in Atlanta or anywhere else in Georgia, please watch this show on June 18th at 6:30 pm on GPB. If you’re not in GA, you can watch it online… because: streaming and because we want this to go NATIONAL!
Today, I am 30 days into my “100 Days of Creative Self-Care!
You may remember that part of my plan for this project was to write and submit my writing fearlessly. I’m happy to say that within this first trimester, I am already reaping the rewards. In addition to writing something every day (whether I publish it or not), I have been consistently writing on Medium and mustered up the courage to submit a few stories to popular publications. I am now a “Top Writer” on Medium in the “This Happened to Me” category. Continue reading
With Venus firmly planted in retrograde and Mercury hot on her heels, this is the perfect time to (re)start a creative habit. I’ve allowed external forces to lure me off of my chosen path and hold my creativity hostage for far too long. Fellow creative soul, Denise Jacobs, has inspired me to begin the “100 Days of Creative Self-Care” project.
What is it?
Exactly what the name implies.
When does it start?
Whenever I want to begin… and that’s today.
What do I have to do?
Whatever I choose that will reconnect me to my creative spirit, nurture my mental and physical health, and make me write fearlessly.
It is, in essence, a challenge. But I don’t want to call it that. I’ve come to learn that the word “challenge” is not a motivator for me. I’m not highly competitive so it has the opposite effect. Instead, I will call it a practice. That’s what it is, after all.
A creative practice… starting with 100 days… continuing for life. See my updates on Instagram and My Single Serving Life.
Did you know I write on Medium?
Well if you didn’t, now you do! It’s one of my favorite places to write AND read! If you’ve never experienced this platform, you are missing out on some amazing storytelling!
Medium recently rolled out a new feature on their mobile app called SERIES which has opened up a new and exciting way for me to share my writing. It’s like Instagram Stories and a Blog had a baby that doesn’t disappear in 24hrs and I’m able to add to the story… like chapters in a book or episodes in a “series” (get it)
I’m excited to share my first (of many) series with you, DO EPIC SHIT! You must have the Medium app to read it. If you like it, CLAP (you’ll see what I mean) and share it with your friends! If you really like it, subscribe to the series so you will know when I add the next installments!
